About solitaire-online.us

solitaire-online.us is a home for classic solitaire on the web — the Klondike game most Americans simply call "Solitaire", plus eleven of its best-loved relatives. You can play all of them free, in your browser, without an account or a download.

But this site started with a question as much as a game: how often can you actually win? Everyone who has played solitaire has had a run of losses and wondered whether the deal was hopeless or the mistake was theirs. We decided to find out properly, and the answers are published on every game page.

Who we are

solitaire-online.us is owned and operated by Solitairen OOD, a Bulgarian company. The content on the site is written and maintained by our team under the byline "Admin". You can reach us at info@solitaire-online.us — for questions about the games, corrections to our figures, or anything to do with your privacy.

The research behind the pages

Each game page carries a short study of that game's odds. Here is how we did it, in brief:

  1. We read the rules from this site's own game code, so the numbers describe the game you actually play here — how many times you can go through the stock, what can fill an empty column, and so on. Where we had to assume a rule, the page says so.
  2. We rebuilt each game as a Python program and checked that it only makes legal moves.
  3. We dealt thousands of numbered deals, so every result can be repeated exactly.
  4. We used the right kind of "player" for each question. A bot that sees only the face-up cards gives a floor: what careful play wins without looking ahead. A solver that sees every card gives a ceiling: how many deals can be won at all. For some games, an exhaustive search gives the exact answer.
  5. We compared our results with published research, mainly Blake and Gent's 2026 study in the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research.
  6. We published every figure with its sample size and a 95% margin of error, and we give ranges where the result is uncertain.

Some of what we found surprised us. In classic Solitaire, switching from Turn 1 to Turn 3 cut our bot's win rate from 42.3% to 10.6% over 10,000 deals each. On this site's version of Baker's Solitaire, where only a King may fill an empty column, just 31.8% of deals can be won at all — less than half the 76.0% we measured under the classic rule. And in Golf, the rule letting you play a King on an Ace (and the other way round) lifts the share of winnable deals from 44.0% to 92.7%. The full method for each game is on its page, step by step.

A note on AI

We used an AI assistant — Claude, made by Anthropic — to help write and review the simulation code and to draft the pages. The AI did not supply any of the numbers. Every figure comes from running the code, and our team checked the results against the published research and reviewed the text before it went live.

The games

Start with Solitaire or its tougher Turn 3 version. For pure skill, try FreeCell — our solver found no deal it could prove unwinnable in 10,000 tries. For something longer, Spider Solitaire comes in 2-suit and 4-suit versions. Yukon, Alaska, Diplomat, Golf, Pyramid and Baker's Solitaire round out the list. All twelve are on the games page.

Every game has large, clear cards with zoom, Hint, unlimited Undo, Restart and Auto Play, and works with drag and drop or a simple tap on any modern computer, tablet or phone.

Editorial standards

  • Every number is either from our own simulations, with the method shown, or from a named and linked source.
  • We describe this site's rules, not a generic version of the game.
  • We do not overstate: a weak bot's result is labeled as a floor, and an uncertain result is shown as a range.
  • If you find a mistake, tell us and we will correct it.

What we don't do

No gambling, no real money, no purchases and no accounts. The games save your progress only in your own browser. Our privacy policy lists exactly what is stored, and our terms of use explain the ground rules. For tips and deeper dives, visit the blog.
